Quran classes for adults
Online Quran Classes for Adults
A large share of our students are adults who never had the chance to learn as children, or who learned to recite by imitation without ever being taught to read. Starting later is common and it is not a disadvantage. Adults usually grasp the underlying pattern of Arabic script faster than children; what takes longer is retraining pronunciation habits formed years ago.
Because classes are one-to-one, an adult beginner is never sitting alongside children, and nobody hears you learn except your tutor. That matters: embarrassment is the single most common reason adults tell us they delayed starting, sometimes for years. The first class is a free thirty-minute assessment with no card details taken, which exists partly so you can find out how quickly this is actually going to move.
Starting from zero
If you cannot read Arabic script at all, you start with Noorani Qaida, which teaches the letters, the vowel marks and how letters join. Most adults finish it in three to six months at three classes a week, and many move faster. From there you begin reading the Mushaf itself.
If you already recite from memory
Many adults can recite Al-Fatiha and several short surahs from memory but cannot read them from the page, and were never corrected on pronunciation. This is very common and is quicker to fix than starting from nothing, because the sounds are already familiar. Your tutor will assess which letters are being formed incorrectly and work on those specifically rather than starting you at the beginning of a syllabus you do not need.
Fitting classes around work
Evening and early morning slots are the norm rather than the exception, and our tutors teach across all time zones. Two classes a week is workable if that is genuinely what you can sustain; three is better. Consistency matters far more than intensity, and your tutor would rather agree a schedule you can keep than an ambitious one you abandon in a month.
Beyond reading
Adults frequently want more than recitation: to understand what they are saying in prayer, to be sure their wudu and salah are correct, or to answer questions their children ask. Tafseer covers the meaning of what you recite, Islamic Studies covers prayer, duas and hadith, and Fiqh covers the rulings with their evidence. Many adults study reading and understanding in parallel.
For reverts to Islam
If you have recently accepted Islam, you can start from the absolute beginning with no assumed background. Most reverts begin with wudu and salah taught step by step, then the short surahs needed for prayer, then Arabic reading. Tell your tutor at the trial what you most want to be able to do, and the plan will start there.

Am I too old to learn to read the Quran?
No. A substantial share of our students are adults learning for the first time, including people starting in their fifties and sixties. Adults often move through the alphabet faster than children because they grasp the pattern quickly.
How long will it take me to read the Quran?
Most adult beginners finish Noorani Qaida in three to six months at three classes a week, then reach comfortable fluency over a further six to twelve months. Reading the short surahs needed for prayer comes much sooner, often within a few weeks.
I feel embarrassed about starting as an adult. Will anyone else be in the class?
No. Every class is one-to-one, so nobody hears your recitation except your tutor. This is the most common concern adults raise at the trial, and it is exactly why we do not run group sessions.
Can I study in the evening after work?
Yes. Evening and early morning slots are normal, and our tutors teach across all time zones. Tell us the windows that genuinely work for you and we will match you with a tutor who teaches in them.
I can recite from memory but cannot read. Where do I start?
Your tutor will assess which letters you are forming incorrectly and work on those, rather than starting you at the beginning of a syllabus you do not need. This is a common starting point and usually progresses quickly.
I recently became Muslim. Where should I begin?
Usually with wudu and salah taught step by step, then the short surahs for prayer, then Arabic reading. There is no assumed background. Tell your tutor what you most want to be able to do and the plan starts there.
